The Throne Room by Joan Moore - Watercolour; 11.5" x 14"; 2000
Features Hycroft China's (formerly Medicine Hat Potteries) "sanitary ware" gleaming in the factory. The 'Albertan' porcelain toilets were manufactured by Hycroft in the 1960s when they were diversifying their product line.
Old Friend by Siew L. Mak - Watercolour; 13.25" x 16"; 2000
Features the last of 18 kilns used by Alberta Clay Products to fire drainage and water pipes. With its dramatic interior shiny with salt-firing residue the huge ancient-looking 40' kiln is a reminder of the factory that operated from 1909 to 1962.
